ANSWER:
Introduction
Responsible integration of social media is helpful in the realization of optimal operation in healthcare, from information sharing to the informative hiring of professionals. According to Price et al. (2018), social media is a platform of homogenous interconnection between various technological facets and devices that aid rapid information processing and dissemination. Consequently, healthcare facilities and organizations have expanded their social media network influence. In return, these media platforms have aided organizational decision-making processes through information shared across these networks. This paper speaks to ethical concerns raised by the integration of social media into healthcare.
Assessment of Personal Social Media Accounts
Social media platforms present their users with the avenue to express their thoughts, emotions, feelings, perceptions, and day-to-day interactions. My posts on my social media accounts were related to my personal life. I did a post on my daily experiences, my traveling journals, pictures of different places and functions I attended. None of these posts were related to my work life. By virtue of being a Christian, my posts exhibited order and morality.
Moreover, some of these posts included famous quotes of renowned world motivational speakers. Even though I maintained extreme order and sanity on my social media platforms, some friends posted their pictures and tagged me. I didn't configure my account's privacy settings, so pictures of them smoking and drinking alcohol appeared on my timeline. This could affect the general outlook of my account. According to Demiray et al. (2019), inappropriate use of social media may create ethical concerns that may lead to questions of professionalism.
Ethical Consideration on the Conduct of Nurses
Nurses play a vital role in healthcare service dispensation. Therefore, they are obligated to hold high standards of professionalism in their interactions at personal and organizational levels. Social media has enhanced the availability of every set of information in the public domain. Moreover, it has improved any user's virtual interaction, authorship, and content development (Pershad et al., 2019). On the contrary, social media has raised questions on professionalism and privacy since personal information is readily available for scrutiny in the public gallery. The unregulated stature of internet operations and functionality may build precedents upon which nursing professionals may exhibit indeliberate self-disclosure. This may lead to violations of privacy policies as stated in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA inspires the aspect of protected health information through privacy rules to set standards for protecting individuals' health information. Acting against these regulations, whether intentional or not, may jeopardize professionalism and compromise the effectiveness of healthcare. Implementation of HIPAA policies fortifies patient privacy policy and avoid nurses from sharing patient information with the public. Conclusively, nurses remain at the center of operations of the healthcare systems. As a result, they are required to uphold a high level of professionalism in their day-to-day operations and, most importantly, their behavioral skills when their duty is on the line.
Reflections of Personal Social Media Posts
The outline of my social media platforms contains mainly my personal information apart from the tags from friends and family. My posts exhibited aspects of objective morality and Christian principles. I presented inspiring encouragements and thoughts on developing Christian teachings in our daily interactions. I also shared links to YouTube videos and songs that taught on the belief of Christianity.
Improvement is an essential aspect of growth. It inspires the realization of effectiveness in both personal life and organizational interaction. To improve social media activity, I need to set privacy and the discretion of what and who posts on my page to avoid unnecessary posts on my timeline.
Conclusion
While social media has positively contributed to efficient service delivery and health promotion, it threatens ethical conduct and unprofessionalism. This has led to policies formulation that regulates the operationalization of social media within the dimensions of healthcare. Therefore, nurses are under an ethical obligation to uphold these standards to promote healthy actualization of professionalism.
